Residential Youth Worker Employment Opportunity within Australia

Safe Places for Children UK have a unique opportunity for enthusiastic and dedicated people to join and relocate to work for Safe Places for Children in Australia.

This opportunity has been created due to the collaborative partnership between both organisations. Safe Places for Children UK are supporting the ongoing recruitment needs in regards to skilled, experienced and qualified staff that would like to be employed within Australia.

The current high priority areas that are being targeted for recruitment are Perth North (Western Australia) Townsville (Queensland) and Toowoomba (Queensland).

Position Mandatory Requirements 

  • A minimum 1 years’ full time employed experience working with young people that have displayed challenging or pain based behaviours such as verbal and physical aggression preferably in a residential setting and within the last 5 years Please note this is assessed at the Eligibility Check

  • A degree level qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, Psychology or a degree in a relevant subject field would be desirable, but essentially the minimum qualification requirement would be a Level 4 Diploma (In a Relevant Subject Field).  Please note these are assessed at the Eligibility Check

  • Ability to do shift work (Approx. 5 shifts a fortnight for full time staff), and sleeping sleepovers. Please note that shift patterns will be based on the needs of the children or young people within the home or within the Area, therefore there can be a mix of sleepovers and support shifts.

  • Must have a full UK or Republic of Ireland driver’s license for at least 12 months

  • Able to obtain the necessary international police check and any associated area police check’s & statutory state check requirements for the specific state that you will be employed within Australia.

  • Able to obtain the VISA requirements before entry into Australia and to have the right to work for Safe Places for Children in Australia.

  • Certain criteria must be met in regard to the VISA requirements, this will be dependent on either a 417 (Preferable option for a quick turnaround in VISA being issued) or Skills in Demand (SID) 482 VISA

  • Be eligible for the Permanent Residency (after sponsorship) as set by the Australian Government (PR conditions are set by Australia Immigration Department)

All applicants that apply for this opportunity are due to follow the International Recruitment project process which will consist but not limited to Eligibility Checks, Successful Completion of One Day Training, Safe Places for Children Australia Review etc. The process will be explained in greater detail with applicants that complete an initial phone screening interview or can be viewed within the link to the FAQ.

Any successful candidate will be required to undertake initial training within either the UK or in the ROI. Safe Places for Children Australia will help with relocation (up to 4 weeks house and 4 weeks car share), VISA requirements, travel costs and will support the successful applicant to obtain the relevant checks prior to commencing employment or travel to Australia.
